• Fine Arts Competition

The Fine Arts Competition was started by the American Association of Christian Schools to challenge students at member schools to strive for excellence and develop disciplined skills in a wide array of subjects. Students in high school (Grades 9-12) compete at the state WVCEA competition and the top winner in each category then qualifies to compete at the AACS National Competition. Under the “FAC Resources” link above (also listed below) you will find resources on the rules, categories, and judging information.

WVCEA holds two Fine Arts Festival per year—Senior High and Elementary/Junior High:

Senior High (Grades 9-12) is held at approximately the same time every year (the second or third week–Thursday and Friday–in March.  It is held on the campus of Appalachian Bible College (near Beckley, WV).  Judges are acquired from Christian colleges, local universities, surrounding area churches, as well as Appalachian Bible College.  This Festival is a full two-day event, beginning with non-timed events on Thursday, and ending with an Awards Assembly on Friday.  Art is brought on Thursday and judged that day so it will be ready for display on Friday.

Elementary/Junior High (Grades 4-6 and Grades 7-9) consists of two competitions held concurrently, and is normally held approximately 6-7 weeks after the Senior High and has been held on a rotating basis at those facilities large enough to accommodate the Festival.  Judges are acquired in the same manner as for Senior High, and many judges adjudicate for both.  This Festival is run similarly as a two day event beginning with non-timed events and Art judging, and ending with an Awards Assembly on Friday.
